Known for
An anthropologist and cyberneticist who carried Alfred Korzybski's distinction between map and territory into his account of mind and communication. In Steps to an Ecology of Mind he argued that what we know of a territory reaches us only through the channels by which we perceive it, so that the mental world is a series of maps and the territory never gets in at all.
