Ideas
Two auto plants. With Adler, compared NUMMI and Volvo's Uddevalla plant as two ways to organize labor-intensive production and favored NUMMI's standardized work for organizational learning. Caveat: An article by two management scholars in Sloan Management Review, comparing two plants. Only the article's description and a published reply to it were read.
Community-based knowledge creation. With Lee, modeled Linux kernel development as evolutionary learning driven by criticism and error correction, a model of knowledge creation beyond the firm. Caveat: One case study, of the Linux kernel project, building a model rather than testing one. Read in its abstract only.
In this section, “read” means read by the Organizational Structures series: where a line says a work, or part of one, was not read, the series did not read it.
