Control and resistance in a Japanese transplant. From participant observation in a Japanese-owned plant in England, found that just-in-time and total quality management, tied to clear management objectives, combined the control of labor with economic goals more completely than piece rates had, and left worker resistance fragmentary and marginal. Caveat: One plant, outside Japan.
