The 1993 test of two configurational theories, with Glick and Huber.
Ideas
Test of configurational theories. With Glick and Huber, Doty formalized Mintzberg's and Miles and Snow's configurational theories with fit models built on alternative assumptions of equifinality and tested them: resemblance to Mintzberg's five ideal types did not predict effectiveness, while configurational fit based on Miles and Snow's theory predicted 24 percent of the variance in overall organizational effectiveness. Caveat: A single study, whose abstract does not describe its sample; the operationalization of the ideal types is the authors'.
