Known for
A Prussian civil servant whose 1854 book stated the law of diminishing marginal utility, that the satisfaction from each further unit of a good declines, and drew rules for human conduct from it. The book went almost unread until a copy was found in 1878 by a colleague of William Stanley Jevons.
