Econometric studies of employee ownership and of Japanese employment practices.

Ideas

Efficiency in employee-owned stores. With Arando, Gago, and Jones, found at Eroski, Mondragon's largest member, that cooperative hypermarkets grew sales significantly faster than stores with modest employee ownership and limited voice, while supermarkets overall showed no significant differences. Caveat: An econometric study of one cooperative's stores.

Long-term employment in Japan and the United States. With Kambayashi, found that prime-age Japanese men with at least five years of tenure kept much higher job stability than their American counterparts over 25 years, while stability fell for mid-career hires and young workers. Caveat: National survey data, not firm structure directly.
