Known for
ICI's first technical safety adviser, from 1968 to 1982, and a leading writer on process safety. He described the hazard and operability study that grew inside ICI from 1963, and his paper What You Don't Have, Can't Leak began the idea of inherently safer design. The fourth edition (1999) is titled Hazop and Hazan: Identifying and Assessing Process Industry Hazards.
