Ideas

Team of teams. A large organization facing a fast, networked adversary must become a network of small teams joined by shared awareness and empowered execution, faster, flatter, and more flexible than a command hierarchy. Caveat: Practitioner lore, a book by the former task force commander and three co-authors, not his memoir (Shultz 2016 names My Share of the Task as the memoir and Team of Teams as his later book); experiments with multiteam systems find that decentralization can cost more than it gains when teams are highly interdependent (Lanaj and others 2013).
