Known for

The organization of professional service firms, above all law firms, across institutional settings.

Ideas

One-firm models abroad. With Faulconbridge, found that local regulations, norms, and cultural frameworks constrained the one-firm model large English law firms carried into Italy, and that the trouble came from clashes between the practices distant institutions produce. Caveat: One historical case study: one profession, one home country, and one host country.

Why partnerships add a non-equity tier. With Roulet, Paolella, and Gabbioneta, found among the top 100 UK law firms from 2000 to 2016 that more women among ranked partners went with adopting non-equity partnership, while higher profit per partner and higher lawyer reputation went with keeping the single equity tier. Caveat: A panel study of the top 100 UK law firms over 17 years: one country's elite firms in one profession. The findings were read in the authors' business school's account of the study, not in the chapter itself.

In this section, “read” means read by the Organizational Structures series: where a line says a work, or part of one, was not read, the series did not read it.
