Buurtzorg described. With Kreitzer, Monsen, and De Blok, described Buurtzorg Nederland's self-directed teams of up to 12 nurses, which grew from one team in 2007 to 650 by March 2014. Caveat: A descriptive case written with the founder, Jos de Blok, as a coauthor.
Scaling without middle managers. With Martela, found that Buurtzorg runs without supervisors or middle management and scales through purpose-built information technology and a small team of coaches. Caveat: One case description, with no outcome comparison.
