Known for
A Hitotsubashi University theorist of knowledge management. His SECI model describes organizational knowledge growing in a spiral between tacit and explicit forms: socialization, externalization, combination, and internalization; he developed it with Hirotaka Takeuchi in The Knowledge-Creating Company (1995).
Caveat: Critics question whether a model drawn from Japanese firms applies elsewhere and whether knowledge must pass through the four modes in that order.
