Known for
An English Franciscan and scholastic logician. The principle of parsimony named after him appears in his writings as "plurality must never be posited without necessity" and "it is futile to do with more what can be done with fewer"; the familiar wording about entities is not his, and the name Occam's razor dates from the seventeenth century.
