A Gartner analyst who, with Jackie Fenn, wrote the book-length account of the hype cycle Fenn introduced in 1995: the pattern in which expectations for a new technology rise to a peak, fall into a trough of disillusionment, and recover to a plateau of productivity.
Caveat: Studies of Gartner's charts have found that few technologies follow the full cycle, and the model offers no data-based test of where a technology stands.
