Oxford, the Collegiate University (2011), with David Palfreyman.
Ideas
The collegiate university as a federation. With Palfreyman, traced how Oxford and Cambridge moved from universities containing self-governing colleges to a federal model of governance, and judged that perhaps the balance of power within the model has shifted so far toward the university that federalism increasingly exists in name only. Caveat: A study of Oxford, with Cambridge as the comparison; the judgment on federalism is hedged in the text.
