Known for

A psychologist who, with K. Anders Ericsson and Ralf Krampe, argued from studies of violinists and pianists that expert performance comes from years of deliberate practice.

Caveat: A 2014 meta-analysis by Brooke Macnamara, David Hambrick, and Frederick Oswald found that deliberate practice explains a modest share of the differences in performance, and a 2019 replication of the violinist study found a smaller effect than the original.
