Divisional charter change and the recombinant, modular corporate form
Ideas
The recombinant multidivisional form. With Eisenhardt, found that divisions' charters, the business areas each division is chartered to look after, change as divisions add or lose businesses, with different patterns of charter loss for start-up, fast-growing, and mature divisions, and described the result as a re-combinant multidivisional form, in which timely charter changes let a large corporation keep pace in fast-paced markets. Caveat: An inductive study of ten divisions in one high-technology corporation.
Modular corporate forms. With Eisenhardt, described from an inductive study of a Fortune 100 corporation how dynamic capabilities that reconfigure division resources, which they call architectural innovation, operate. Caveat: One corporation; only the opening of its abstract was read.
In this section, “read” means read by the Organizational Structures series: where a line says a work, or part of one, was not read, the series did not read it.
