Ideas
Markets, bureaucracies, and clans. Ouchi set markets, bureaucracies, and clans side by side as mechanisms of control and predicted which fits by performance ambiguity and goal incongruence. Caveat: Conceptual.
Theory Z. Type Z companies, American firms that resemble Japanese ones, tend to have long-term employment, often for a lifetime, consensual and participative decision making, and wholistic relationships with their employees. Caveat: A popular book. Only passages of it were read.
Clans. Clans are efficient as a mechanism of control when goal incongruence is low and performance ambiguity is high. Caveat: Conceptual. Read in its abstract only.
In this section, “read” means read by the Organizational Structures series: where a line says a work, or part of one, was not read, the series did not read it.
