Developed by Eliyahu M. Goldratt (It's Not Luck, 1994) and codified by H. William Dettmer (The Logical Thinking Process, 2007).
A set of five logic diagrams that trace many symptoms back to one core conflict, resolve it, and lay out the path to the future state.
When to reach for it
Many symptoms show up at once across an organization, and there is reason to suspect most grow from a single conflict or constraint.
How it runs
- List the undesirable effects and chain them back to a core problem.
- Draw the conflict and expose the assumption behind it.
- Project the consequences of removing that assumption.
- List obstacles and the intermediate goals that clear each.
- Sequence the actions that get there.
Where it sits in SOLVE eX
- 4.1 Root Causes and the Case for Going Back
- 4.4 Refining Ideas Into Practical Solutions
- 6.2 Creating an Action Plan
